چکیده

Introduction Seismic anisotropy is often explained in terms of effective media where an ordered ensemble of sub-seismic elements leads to a directional variation of the materials properties. Examples of such systems include aligned cracks or fractures, fine layering and correlated pore space. Therefore, measurements of seismic anisotropy potentially allow insights to physical systems which would otherwise lie outside current seismic imaging capabilities. The case of aligned crack/fracture systems are possibly the most important to the hydrocarbon industry. This is because in many situations a reservoir’s performance may be critically dependent on fracture controlled permeability anisotropy. However, the interpretative step from the observations of seismic anisotropy to the underlying physical phenomenon may not be simple. One assumption that is often applied is that the fast shear-wave (@I) polarization is parallel to crack/fracture direction. However, a certain class of anisotropic materials with transverse isotropy (TI) can be identified with properties which may be inconsistent with this rule. Clearly, it needs to be established whether these ‘unusual’ materials can be realised in terms of realistic physical systems if any confidence is to be placed in such interpretations.

Estimation of reservoir fracturing from marine VSP using local shear - wave conversion ’

A marine VSP is designed to estimate the orientation and density of fracturing within a gas-producing dolomite layer in the southern North Sea. The overburden anisotropy is firstly estimated by analysing shear waves converted at or just below the sea-bed, from air-gun sources at four fixed offset azimuths. Full-wave modelling helps confirm that the background has no more than 3% vertical birefr...

Shear-Wave Dynamic Behavior using Two Different Orientations

For laterally complex media, it may be more suitable to take a different orientation of thedisplacement vector of Shear-waves. This may change the sign of several imaginary reflections andconversion coefficients to be used in reservoir characterization and AVO (Amplitude Versus Offset)analysis or modeling. In this new convention the positive direction of the displacement vector ofreflected Shea...

Prediction of shear and Compressional Wave Velocities from petrophysical data utilizing genetic algorithms technique: A case study in Hendijan and Abuzar fields located in Persian Gulf

Shear and Compressional Wave Velocities along with other Petrophysical Logs, are considered as upmost important data for Hydrocarbon reservoirs characterization. Shear Wave Velocity (Vs) in Well Logging is commonly measured by some sort of Dipole Logging Tools, which are able to acquire Shear Waves as well as Compressional Waves such as Sonic Scanner, DSI (Dipole Shear Sonic imager) by Schlumbe...

ANN FOR CORRELATION BETWEEN SHEAR WAVE VELOCITY OF SOIL AND SOME GEOTECHNICAL PARAMETERS

Shear wave velocity (Vs) is known as one of the fundamental material parameters which is useful in dynamic analysis. It is especially used to determine the dynamic shear modulus of the soil layers. Nowadays, several empirical equations have been presented to estimate the shear wave velocity based on the results from Standard Penetration Test (SPT) and soil type. Most of these equations result i...

THE EFFECT OF PURE SHEAR ON THE REFLECTION OF PLANE WAVES AT THE BOUNDARY OF AN ELASTIC HALF-SPACE

This paper is concerned with the effect of pure shear on the reflection from a plane boundary of infinitesimal plane waves propagating in a half-space of incompressible isotropic elastic material. For a special class of constitutive laws it is shown that an incident plane harmonic wave propagating in the considered plane gives rise to a surface wave in addition to a reflected wave (with angle o...
